- At least six feet high, flush with ground (no wiggle room beneath fence)
- Locks on latches to prevent dog from working latch
- Electric fence in addition to regular fence
- Some kind of below-the-ground barrier, either cement or buried fencing
- Radio fence (collar with radio receiver, give shock to dog if they approach perimeter) NOT recommended without additional barrier
